Attitude of the students towards computer education

Computer can be seen as any machine electronically or devices that accept data through the input unit, process the data through the central processing unit, output result through the output unit inform of an information. (Raph, 2008). Computer equally, is any machine or device electronically which is under the control of stored program, can accept data, in a prescribed form process the data and supply the result as information in a special format as an out. (Okoro, 2008). Computer has been recognized as a veritable tool for high productivity in the information age because of its speed equality, capacity and efficiency in storage, recalling or retrieving information stored in it. Nigeria as a country witnessed the speed of information age enough between late 1980-1990 could right be described as a decide of computer in the history of computer in Nigeria.
In the developed country and still developing country like Nigeria computer is been used for more business establishment, houses, government organization, the oil refineries, in industrial sectors, banking sectors for debiting and payment of cash, in schools for result preparations and record keeping hospitals for diseases diagnose and drugs prescriptions and in more other offices for automation.
Introduction of computer education in all secondary schools in Nigeria should be seen as a major step to equip sector day schools’ leaver with employable skills and subsequently minimize unemployment among secondary school leavers. The introduction of computer in our secondary schools has little or no imp-action and the full potentials of computer in assisting or managing instruction are yet to be exploited. Andy (2000) stated that, so many people see computer as dehumanizing and lazy formation to human endeavor or stupid machine while others recognized it as a tool that enhance and ease human endeavor or individual problems.
Computer educations has been as a virtual form of education for the advancement of the status of nations in various sectors as no economy of a nation grows beyond the level of its education, and no educational growth without its teacher and the teacher fundamental growth lay its brick from school of learning such as secondary schools Agbodo (2005). This makes it imperative that it should be introduced and popularized at the secondary school level of our educational system.
In the developed countries and recently developing countries we hear of computer assisted instructions (CAI) or computer assisted Learning (CAL) and computer are used for foreign languages drills or conversion, changing human language to computer languages and computer languages to human language through the use of compilers, converters and interpreter etc. Tutoring and problem solving mathematically and otherwise that can provide student with realistic decision making scenarios or engage them in monitoring of students’ progress in CAL program diagnosing their strength and weakness, among others allowing individuals students to learned at their own pace without distance barriers to their learning.
Against this background, a national committee on computer education was inaugurated by the then honorable minister of education by name professor Tribrid Aminu in 2001. The committee was charged with the responsible of planning through dynamic policy on computer education and literacy in Nigeria as well as devising clear strategy technologies to be used by the Federal and State government and other organization in introducing computer educations into their various institutions of learning. With the implementations of the new national policy on education in Nigeria, computer literacy courses were introduced in higher institutions for beginning students whiles the 6-3-3-4 or 9-3-4 system specified that computer education will be introduced in Secondary Schools. Akume (2007). It was also identified that before the national policy of the Federal government, private computer schools and computer educations program mes were at a very slow levels of development after these polities, computer education was brought to a lighter and speedily improvement.
In Earnest speaking there is nexus between attitude and student’s performance in computer Education and general individual student have various attitude toward each courses, and this attitude is relatively stable overt behavior to learning Nwachukwu (2000). An attitude is a process of individual consciousness which determine or possible activity of their social world (Kersley, 2000). Attitude differs on the basis of gender where the female seems to more positive in their attitude, males are less motivated and negative in their attitude.  Generally, finding statistics shows that females engage in less cases of misconduct, have less absenteeism and are more expectant about future and are equally more enthusiastic about future studies, whereas males on the other hand are less committed to student` work, can easily give up. Therefore, since the better achievement of student on any subject depends on their interest or attitude towards it, the researcher considers its importance to verify the attitude of secondary students toward computer education in Nigeria secondary Schools; precisely Otukpo Local Government Area in Benue State.
